Cookware Performance (continued)

Best Cookware Overall Performance.

Foodies may assert that only the most expensive, best cookware produces high-end meals, but the cookware sets reviews that we read suggest frugal cooks are more than satisfied with the quality of the meals that come out of their cheap cookware. On Walmart, users write that the T-fal Basic Easy Care saucepots, skillets, and Dutch oven heat evenly and don't burn food.
Moreover, the pieces are right-sized for everyday cooking (the griddle earns a shout out or two) and sit well on smooth-top ranges. The 10-piece Cuisinart Advantage also wins plaudits in reviews of best cookware on Overstock for even heating and cooking, just the right amount of heft, and a practical assortment of pieces.

Similar comments are voiced in cookware sets reviews on Cookware.com about the Farberware Classic Stainless set, which heats up fast, cooks food evenly, and feels appropriately heavy in the hands; users like the versatility of the deep saute pan but a few grumble about the small sauce pans. The JC Penney Stainless Steel cookware set turns in a decent performance for the price, according to users' reviews of the best cookware on the company website, where they note that cooking proceeds quickly and easily (on smooth-top stoves, as well) but suggest watching the heat carefully to prevent burning and sticking.

Two other collections that we researched are panned in cookware sets reviews. On Amazon, users of the Chef's Du Jour Kitchen Combo set assert that food burns and sticks, outcomes that render the pots and pans relatively useless. The Bialetti Fusion gets dinged in cookware sets reviews on Amazon for lackluster heating despite its light weight and thin build, which call for low or medium heat.

Cookware Sets Ease of Use.

Ergonomics and clean-up are the two ease-of-use issues that pop up periodically in cookware sets reviews. The T-fal Basic Easy Care set boasts nonstick coating inside and out, and consumers say clean up is a breeze; the weight of the pots and pans is sufficiently light that one consumer challenged by arthritis has no difficulty using them. A couple of consumers grumble about the shape and length of the handles on the Farberware Classic Stainless set, but users generally say it's easy to clean and liquids can be poured without dripping. Some say the JC Penney set is easy to clean and heats so well that your gas usage drops.

About clean-up: The manufacturers' specs we found for the Cuisinart Advantage, Chef's Du Jour Kitchen Combo, Bialetti Fusion, and Farberware Classic Stainless Steel sets say the pots and pans are dishwasher-safe. In a Q&A about the T-fal Basic Easy Care, users say they routinely put the cookware into the dishwasher. Hand washing is recommended for the JC Penney set and Farberware notes that washing by hand is preferred despite specs that say dishwasher-safe. Consumers say that peeling problems with the nonstick surface of the Cuisinart Advantage pots and pans are minimized if you avoid the dishwasher.

Don't Bother Cheap Cookware Sets

Bialetti Fusion 9-piece

Nine of the usual pieces in this set, including three skillets, but disaffected consumers complain about loose handles, peeling nonstick coating, and glass lids that crack when overheated.

Chef's Du Jour Kitchen Combo

Despite its seeming riches -- 32 pieces!! -- this very low-priced cookware set is faulted for its lightweight uselessness. Buyers report the food sticks and burns, the knives don't cut, and the metal utensils rust.
