Depending on where you live, you might want to send a big thank-you to state officials. ConsumerSearch reminds us that back-to-school shopping season often ushers in tax-free holidays, and this year fewer states are joining in the revelry, but still...every penny saved quickly adds up.

"In an effort to boost business and give cash-strapped parents a reprieve, select states have declared tax-free holidays when certain merchandise is exempt from sales tax. During these events, you'll be spared paying state sales tax on school supplies, clothing and sometimes other items too (depending on the state). Many stores will offer additional sales in conjunction with the sales-tax holiday -- an even greater incentive to get the most bang for your buck.
