Say you've got a few employees, or maybe friends, and you need some cheap tethering. Say what? As BNET explains, it's a way to instantly turn your laptop and other electronic devices into hotspots. The the pricey solution is a deal with the main cellular providers; the cheap solution is a portable, pay-as-you-go device. The catch: an upfront investment in the hardware.

In an ideal world, you'd be able to use your iPhone as a mobile hotspot for your laptop, iPad, and other devices -- without paying a small fortune for the privilege.

AT&T does offer tethering, but only for one device. Verizon's iPhone will support up to five devices, meaning it's a more traditional mobile-hotspot solution..."
