Cheap DC restaurants that appeal to kids? Indeed, as this frugal traveler for The New York Times discovered as he marched his nephew around to a slew of cheap ethnic eateries. There are plenty to go around in our nation's capital, thanks to a culinary-rich immigrant community. Hard to believe, but Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Bolivian, and Salvadoran will appeal to grown-ups and kids, alike. The all-American chili? Never mind.

"Tearing through the spread of Ethiopian before us, my average lunch guest might have done his best to channel a pompous foodie, declaring the chicken stew 'a little heavy on the awaze paste' or by praising 'the tomato's crisp sweetness, which does wonders to counterbalance the properly sour injera bread'..."
