What Are the Five Most Economical Cars?
With gas prices rising and no end in sight, the question of the days is: what are the most economical cars? As The Wall Street Journal points out in its list of five economical cars, automakers have been offering fuel efficient cars for several years now, but the latest crop doesn't require much in the way of consumer sacrifice. For less than $30K, you get a vehicle with appealing features -- leather seats, for example, or a split folding rear seat, an eight-speaker stereo or remote start -- and fuel economy of at least 30 miles to the gallon. Sure, these models (and a few runners-up) aren't luxury cars or even full-sized vehicles, but you're getting a lot for your money.
"After weeks of surging upward, gasoline prices were nearly stalled this week at $3.54 per gallon for regular-grade fuel, according to AAA, the American Automobile Association. But they are expected to rise again and continue beyond 2008 levels to about $4.50 a gallon, says Paul Taylor, chief economist for the National Automobile Dealers Association..."
