With spring break in gear for many high schools and colleges, you may already have your warm getaway trip planned. But if you're still looking for a vacation, you might want to jump on current deals for cheap flights to Cancun.

A story on USA TODAYsays you can get an average fare of $473 from a major U.S. city for the month of May. It suggests buying four months in advance, flying out on a Saturday and going with a low-key, lesser-flown airline to get cheap flights to Cancun. Pretty standard stuff.

But if you already have your passport and don't mind a layover, you can get cheap flights to Cancun right now for late April from New York for as low as $331 via CheapAir. This particular flight deal from NY has a layover in Florida.

Budget Travel has named the island locale as one of its top 10 budget destinations for this year, partially because you can score a round-trip, direct flight from New York City or Chicago for less than $350 in the middle of summer. Part of its lower cost is due to a new international airport and six new direct flight routes that service 16 U.S. cities.

If neither of these options works for you, you can just pump up the inflatable pool in the backyard and slip a pink umbrella into a glass of lemonade to create that Caribbean feeling.

"Amid the ongoing discussion about whether U.S. travelers are safe in Mexico, Cancun remains the No. 1 destination in the Caribbean, and is once again drawing throngs of spring breakers. If you're considering a trip to the popular beach resort, here's a detailed look at how to find the best airfare deals..."
