New group buying site focuses on travel deals

Online group buying options are a dime a dozen these days, but a new one has found a niche as a flexible travel deals site.

Yuupon.com debuts April 5 and will offer between eight and 20 deals a week. The site claims to be unique because it allows flexible travel dates. So far, the deals look like they're only for hotels. A deal will go for seven days, and if you decide you don't really want the one you bought, you can get your money back within eight days of your purchase.

A few things are questionable about this flexible travel deals site right off the bat. First, is it a gamble to grab a hotel deal if you haven't booked a flight? What if the hotel discount is great, but the airfare rates for that time are dismal? It seems a safer bet to book a cheap flight and hotel at the same time.

Second, we talked just a few days ago about how to make your vacation more budget-friendly by signing up for group buying sites to get discounts on activities and tours. Can you make these sites and Yuupon.com go hand in hand without feeling like you're being overwhelmed by deals?

Will you be trying this site or sticking to your regular discount sites and other budget-friendly travel tools?

"A new bargain site is offering deals without locking you into travel dates. Yuupon.com makes its debut Tuesday.

"Deals run for seven days, but people can get a full cash refund up to eight days after purchasing," said founder Mary Song, who has been in the online travel business since 1999. "If travelers miss that initial refund window, as long as they cancel before their voucher expires, they can get a credit to their Yuupon account..."
