Cheap chic tips
Dress like a diva or dapper don on a discount

Ahh, the perpetual struggle to be stylish while saving money. Who isn't in need of cheap chic tips?
Huffington Post blogger Michael Cohen tells several cash-strapped people writing in to his column, including a devastated divorcee and a shoe addict, how to save and still stun. An easy way to gussy up is paint your nails with the season's pink and neutral power colors.
As you can see in the comments below, one of our readers pointed us to the fact that Cohen recommends a not-so-frugal choice for a shoe to last you through the spring -- the $995 Christian Louboutin's Lady Daf Platform Mary Jane Pumps. But there are plenty of other cheap chic tips Cohen doesn't mention. Buy a few low-cost staple pieces, for one, like a black tank, white T or solid-colored cardigan. You can dress up these items with things you already have in your closet or with colorful, clunky -- and cheap -- costume jewelry. Rummage through consignment and thrift shops, or get really smart and shop a retailer in a place with opposite seasons like Australia. They'll be trying to get rid of their warm-weather inventory as the winter season approaches.
If you're the type of person who needs to wear something new all the time, find a girlfriend your size who goes through clothes -- gently-used, of course, -- like a fashion model. You'll continually reap the benefits without having to shill out the dough.
What are your cheap chic tips?
"I am a recent divorcee and to say the least, I have been left with not much. I came home one day and found myself the victim of a cliché. My husband was leaving me for a younger girl and leaving me with nothing but my personal accessories and a love it or leave it plan to put towards my living. This doesn't allow much room for some stylish spring clothes. Do you have any ideas on how to feel human without spending a ton on clothes?..."
