Cheap Wedding Ideas
Save Big Bucks on Your Big Day
Weddings cost a lot. But you just have to get creative to make yours a savings-savvy affair. Cheap wedding ideas posted on MoneyCrashers.com include a well-known one: get married on Friday or Sunday. These days are notoriously cheaper -- by as much as 50 percent -- than the popular Saturday dates.
Another big money-sucker at a wedding is booze. By having only wine at your reception instead of all the liquor needed for an open bar, you can save thousands. You can also scrap the DJ and just hook up your iPod and end the reception early.
One bride told AOL's women's lifestyle site Lemondrop how she had a wedding for less than $5,000 in 2007. She actually did have her special day on a Saturday, but kept it to the early afternoon. She had the reception in a small section of a restaurant, in which she was able to benefit from the cheaper lunch menu. She served only sangria and had a cash bar.
And remember, there's no reason to go all out on a top-dollar wedding gown. You can find stylish cheap wedding dresses online and in stores at a growing number of retailers. Oh, and what about something borrowed from a friend or relative, or something old from a vintage store?
