When it's your time to go, consider the alternative to a traditional burial: cremation. The New Journal online reports that cremations are increasing, in part because cremation is the less expensive option.
"Not only is the recession scaring the living to change habits, it's also impacting how the dead are handled.Cremations are on the rise as an economic, low-cost alternative to traditional funerals, officials say. Increased knowledge of after-death choices, religious tolerance and environmental concerns, and a decreased sense of place are other factors that pushed cremations from 15 percent of all United States dispositions in 1988 to about 34 percent in 2008, according to the Cremation Association of North America..."
