Online gaming seen as cheap entertainment in recession
Americans' new habit of pinching pennies is good news for the online gaming industry. The Washington Business Journal reports on a huge spike in demand for free online entertainment as the recession blues continue playing in the background.
"Online gaming is continuing to grow in the U.S. as more consumers are opting for free entertainment alternatives.Reston-based comScore (NASDAQ: SCOR) says it found a significant increase in the size of the gaming audience during the past year, driven in part by the reality of economic challenges. The category attracted 87 million U.S. visitors in May, up 22 percent versus year ago."
