Hiring a babysitter while you go out with the spouse often pushes date night out of the cheap range. That's no less true when traveling abroad. The New York Times offers a few strategies for finding a reliable adult who charges affordable prices to watch over your kids so that you can enjoy that much-needed alone time.

"First, you have to believe that I love my daughter, Sasha. She's cute, amusing and, although she's only 16 months old, a good companion at a bar. When I come home from a long trip, Sasha is the one I'm most excited to see (followed immediately by my wife, Jean, of course). Feeding her, playing with her, taking care of her -- this is what's important, above all.

That said, there are times when Jean and I travel with her that, well, we need an escape. If only for a few hours one night during the trip, we want to remind ourselves that we are adults with lives and a relationship that once existed independently of the amiable toddler around which they now revolve. In short, we need a baby sitter..."
