There's no two ways about it: owning a car is not cheap, even if you buy the model with the lowest sticker price. Car and Driver reminds us about all the other costs, like insurance and fuel, factored those into a total-cost equation and came up with 10 recommendations for the best new car deals.

"When it's time to buy a new car and desperation comes calling, all other priorities peel away, leaving price alone to govern the decision. But simply buying the cheapest car isn't necessarily the cheapest route. Cars -- even the affordable ones -- are expensive to own and operate.
