LG LW8012ER Review
Users praise LG's 8,000 BTU Energy Star unit for its cooling performance, although some say it could be quieter. Many applaud this air conditioner's quality and efficiency.
The LG LW8012ER (starting at $219, Amazon) is this year's version of the LW8011ER, one of our previous top picks. Like its predecessor, the 8,000 BTU LG LW8012ER has earned largely positive reviews so far. In an LG LW8012ER review on the manufacturer's website, one user reports that this unit puts a 12,000 BTU air conditioner to shame. It's powerful enough that gripes about noise do pop up in LG LW8012ER reviews at Home Depot, but we found that to be true with any air conditioner this size. A couple of consumers mention that they've owned similar LG units for five years and counting, and other LG LW8012ER reviews comment on the high quality of the construction.
The LG LW8012ER is an Energy Star-qualified unit with an energy efficiency ratio of 10.8. It features auto restart after power outages, energy saver mode, and a 24-hour timer, an improvement over the 12-hour timer on last year's model. Users can remotely control the temperature, timer, and fan speed. In an otherwise positive LG LW8011ER review at Home Depot, one user lamented the lack of a sleep mode on these units.
The LG LW8012ER is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor and one year on the compressor, compared with an impressive five-year warranty on parts and labor for the previous version. Nonetheless, LG's 8,000 BTU air conditioner seems to remain a smart purchase.
