Antivirus Software Features Comparison
Any cheap antivirus program you buy (or download, in the case of free versions) offers basic protection against viruses and spyware, but most packages also offer at least some advanced protection. Antivirus software that uses heuristics watches the behavior of files on your system and neutralizes any files or programs that behave like a virus; this helps protect your PC against brand new malware threats that don't yet have a definition. Antiphishing technology warns against bad Web sites that may try to trick you out of personal information. Rootkit detection protects your PC against nasty rootkits, malware that buries itself deep into your PC and can cause all kinds of problems. Some antivirus software can scan URLs in Web pages, marking those links that could lead to malicious Web sites, but none of the best cheap antivirus programs on our list boast this feature.
