During our Natural Ice review, the panel of 13 tasters described the beer as "ricey" with a "fruity nose." One member of the crew remarked that it seemed "sharper than prior beers." Another reviewer asserted that it "opens with an apple flavor" that other panelists further described as "crisp" and "sweet." This brew garnered five votes as the favorite among nine American lagers, six positive reviews, and two negative.

When we analyzed the results of our American lager taste-off, this Anheuser-Busch brew trailed Pabst Blue Ribbon by just a nose. We couldn't find it in a six-pack at our local market, but at $16.49 for a 30-pack of 12-ounce cans, the per can cost came out to about 55 cents and the per ounce cost was a mere 4.6 cents.

While our group of suds sippers found Natural Ice nearly as appealing as the Pabst Blue Ribbon that won the first-place mantle, there was a huge ratings gap between these two beers on the Beer Advocate site. Imbibers who posted Natural Ice reviews on the site as well as its owners gave the beer a poor rating, with a ranking of only 1.79 out of 5. A review at Fearless Critic also recommended avoiding this lager, referring to it as little more than carbonated mineral water with some beer flavor.

Natural Ice (4.6 cents/ounce) may be panned by beer experts and many consumers, but our panel of leisure quaffers considered it a non-threatening beer that was "light, but with still enough beer flavor."
