Video playback with any budget Blu-ray you buy these days looks terrific, so decide which other features are important to you. If you like streaming services, choose a budget Blu-ray player that supports lots of them and boasts a solid record of streaming without too many fits and starts (a fast Internet connection and good wireless-N router are necessary assists). Also, if you favor a particular streaming service, such as Amazon, make sure the player you like supports it. Some shoppers for budget Blu-rays are interested in 3D playback, but if that's not you, you'll save a few bucks by choosing a no-frills 2D player. If 3D is your thing, though, you're in luck -- several good 3D Blu-ray players qualify as cheap and handle 3D content quite well. All Blu-ray players should support a variety of surround sound formats, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD.
