There are many different types of bras designed for many different types of clothing and activities, including standard bras for everyday wear, strapless bras for underneath tops with no straps or sleeves, push-up bras for a bit of cleavage, and sports bras for physical activity. The most common materials are cotton, spandex or elastane, nylon, and polyester; a mix of these offers the most comfort and durability. Push-up bras use gel or other padding to lift the bust, and other types of bras often come with padded or molded cups. The top bras on our list have seamless cups, for a smooth look beneath clothing; bras with seams in the cups tend to be more supportive. Underwire is designed to provide additional support, although some users find wire-free bras more comfortable. Most bras have camisole straps, which are sewn into the band at a 90-degree angle. Some are convertible, so they can crisscross in the back and, in some cases, also be worn under halter tops or one-shoulder styles. Leotard straps tend to be wider and create a U shape in the back. Generally, the more hooks on the hook-and-eye closure, the more support, and the less skin bulging out around the band. Look for a minimum of two; three or more is best for a larger bust.
