Western Digital Elements 1 TB Review
A reliable, quiet hard drive that receives high marks from users and experts, the Western Digital Elements 1 TB gives the most bang for the buck when it comes to storage space. But unlike many other hard drives, it does not include backup software. You do, however, get a highly dependable hard drive designed to sit on your desktop, rather than be toted around, although it's small enough to travel with if you need to. This hard drive has a USB 2.0 port and is compatible with PCs and Macs.
Users at Amazon raved about the Western Digital Elements 1TB External Hardrive. Amazon users were especially pleased with the low price for this 1 TB drive and its silent, reliable operation. Several Amazon users, however, noted that they were disappointed that the Western Digital warranty is only for one year; one user suggested purchasing and additional two years of warranty for an extra $25. Most users at Newegg also loved this hard drive. Newegg users appreciated its simple, functional design and low price. Several users noted that the aluminum shell helps dissipate the heat, thereby requiring less power. An expert reviewer at External Hard Drives praised the Western Digital Elements for its sturdy design, ease of use, and quiet operation.
The Western Digital Elements hard drive is compatible with desktops and notebooks, and with PC and Mac operating systems. This drive does not include back software; this is for users who prefer to do manual backups or use a third-party backup program. This drive has no power switch; the drive spins down to save power when not in use. It comes with a one-year warranty, but users may extend the warranty for an additional two years for a cost of $25.
Users could not have been more positive about this drive. They were especially pleased with getting a 1 TB drive for such a low price. If you are looking for a backup software program to be included with your hard drive than this is not for you. But if you just want a very reliable hard drive for a low price so that you can do your own backups, then the Western Digital Elements is a great deal.
