Seagate Replica 250 GB Review
The Seagate Replica is designed to automatically backup your Windows-based PC, including the operating system. This is a great idea, but many users complain that the backup software doesn't work properly. The Replica offers only 250 GB of storage, which is much less storage per dollar than many competing products. The Replica does not support Macs.
The Seagate Replica is designed to automatically backup your Windows-based PC, including the operating system. This is a great idea for PC users, but unfortunately, many users complain that the backup software does not work properly. Users at Cnet panned this hard drive. One user noted that the software that comes with the Seagate Replica made all of their Office 2007 programs crash. Another Cnet user complained that the Replica software slowed down their computer but did not back up all of their files. Users at Amazon were equally critical. One Amazon user described the Replica software as "an exercise in frustration." Another said that the Replica software caused their system to crash.
The Seagate Replica backs up your entire Windows PC system, including the operating system. This makes it possible to restore the whole system in the event of a crash. However, the Replica does not allow users to backup up individual files or folders; it is the whole system or nothing. The Replica is not compatible with Macs.
While the Replica is a nice idea in theory, too many customers have complained that the Replica software does not work with their system. We recommend trying another hard drive, such as the Seagate Freeagent Go.
