A reviewer from PC Magazine praised the SimpleTech [re]Drive for being inexpensive, easy to use, and environmentally friendly. This reviewer did caution that the [re]Drive's Turbo USB option does not always work. An expert reviewer from Cnet noted that the [re]Drive, which is made from bamboo and recycled aluminum, is the most environmentally friendly hard drive that they tested. This reviewer also praised the fast performance and quiet operation of the [re]Drive. On the other hand, several Cnet users reported that they had difficulty getting the [re]Drive to work at all. Many users at Amazon were also disappointed with this drive, with two users noting that the drive never shuts down, but is constantly "spinning."
The SimpleTech [re]Drive is an environmentally-friendly hard drive that is made from bambood and recycled aluminum. The aluminum frame acts as a heat-sink, avoiding the need for a power-hungry fan. It offers a Turbo USB option that is 25% faster then the regular USB operation.
While we commend SimpleTech for building and eco-friendly hard drive, unfortunately many users were disappointed in the operation of this drive. If you are a techie and willing to take a chance to help save the environment, it may be worth a try.
