Rightway RW500JR Spotter, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Edition Review
Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans will no doubt be drawn to this GPS, but its flaky performance and only 1.7 million POIs will not impress most users.
Fans of famous NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. certainly like the idea of a GPS system that uses Dale Jr.'s voice to guide them on their trip. However users at Amazon found that the Rightway RW500JR often had problems finding addresses and user's locations. Best Buy users were a little more forgiving, noting that the GPS was easy to use. CNET, however, did not like the RW500JR. The novelty of Dale Jr.'s voice and the device's low price were not enough to overcome shortcomings such as a "clunky" interface, long startup times, and difficulty it had tracking in cities.
The RW500JR Spotter has a 4.3-inch screen with text-to-speech. It also includes a slot for an SD memory card and can play audio files. The GPS includes a mere 1.7 million POIs, and also includes a preloaded map of the U.S.
Novelty products often don't stand up to the competition, and that certainly seems to be the case here. Dale Earnhardt Jr. may be a master on the racetrack, but there are several other cheap GPS systems that can run circles around this GPS.
