Gateway NV55C38u Review
Users seem satisfied with this machine, which is cheaper than most other budget laptops, but we hesitate to recommend any system running Windows 7 with only 2GB of RAM.
Quite a few users posting Gateway NV55C38u reviews at Newegg praise this laptop's speed and excellent overall value. Users like the comfortable, responsive keyboard, according to Gateway NV55C38 reviews at Amazon, and say the laptop is also easy to set up and use and runs quietly.
The Gateway NV55C38u is an older system, and its specs seem out of date. It uses an Intel Pentium 6200 dual-core CPU instead of a newer, more common Intel i3 or i5 second-generation CPU. Its 2GB of RAM is the bare minimum we'd tolerate in a laptop running Windows 7. It has a good-size 500GB hard drive, three USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port, and a six-cell battery.
Even though users clearly like this laptop, we hesitate to recommend it. If you're looking for a really cheap laptop and don't mind a system that uses somewhat outdated hardware, this Gateway model is a respectable value. However, we would like to see at least 3GB of RAM, and preferably 4GB. Even so, this laptop is capable of running the usual tasks -- email, photo editing, web surfing, and the like -- without too much trouble.
