Magic Chef MCD990R Review
Magic Chef MCD990R

The red shell of this compact microwave adds a wow! factor that consumers find irresistible, according to Magic Chef MCD990R reviews. The high-gloss candy-apple color pops up often in users' posts, fleshed out by adjectives and verbs such as "cute", "beautiful," "love", and "envy," the latter expressed by female dorm mates of its owner, according to a Magic Chef MCD990R review on Home Depot, where another says she smiles whenever passing it by. Perhaps more importantly, though, Magic Chef MCD990R reviews say this model performs like any good small microwave should: it heats leftovers, vegetables, and packaged entrees in minutes but isn't the model for anyone who plans to actually cook with it. Some Magic Chef MCD990R reviews say heating times may be faster than the package instructions suggest, but one posted on Amazon says extra time may be necessary because this model runs on less power than most processed foods call for. Consumers consider the MCD990R a time-saver with pizzazz and the right mix of useful functions. The only negative comments we found in Magic Chef MCD990R reviews -- and there were only a few -- concern an irritating noise, a door that doesn't close properly, and the occasional lemon.

With just 0.9 cubic feet, a nine-inch turntable, and 900 watts, the Magic Chef MCD990R is really too small for any family-sized food prep. But it does sport a number of features common to larger and pricier microwaves. There are one-touch buttons for popcorn, pizza and reheating a dinner plate portion, three defrost options, and five auto-cook buttons for various foodstuffs. It also boasts the usual clock, timer, and safety lock. The external dimensions are 19.5"Wx15.3"Dx11.6"H.

The Magic Chef MCD990R is the smallest, least powerful, and cheapest microwave we researched. Even so, it holds its own against the brawnier competition within the limits of its design. The compact size, budget price, solid performance, and fashionable good looks make this model a favorite with the just-heat-it-up crowd.
