Acer S230HL Abii Review
Consumers and experts laud the brilliant color and sharp picture on the Acer S230HL Abii, which is one of the few cheap displays with two HDMI ports.
The new Acer S230HL Abii is a solid performer and very affordable for a 23-inch display. An Acer S230HL Abii review at PC Mag commends the uniform color, sharp video, and clear text (even with small fonts) and says the monitor's 5ms response time is fast enough to preclude ghosting. On the other hand, the Acer S230HL Abii review notes that this model struggles at each end of the grayscale -– forget about subtlety in very dark and very light shades of gray -– and the viewing angles, though standard, cause colors to shift when looking at the display off-center. Meanwhile, consumers are keen on this model and several confess to owning more than one. Acer S230HL Abii reviews at CompUSA exclaim over the sharp images and bright colors, the features and the price. One user notes the convenience of being able to downsize from two monitors and another says the viewing experience surpasses that of a 19-inch screen. The two HDMI ports also garner loads of appreciative comments.
But nothing is perfect and we did come across a few gripes in Acer S230HL Abii reviews. Several consumers were disappointed to discover there are no wall-mounting holes and at Amazon some grumble about the awkward placement of control buttons on the bottom of the bezel, which makes it hard to see what you're doing.
Like most monitors in its class, the Acer S230HL Abii is a widescreen LED display with TN technology and resolution of 1920x1080. It has a brightness of 250cd/m and response time of 5ms, also typical for an entry-level monitor. The two HDMI ports are uncommon, though; most displays in this price range usually have at most one. The monitor also features a D-Sub (VGA) input and comes packaged with HDMI and VGA cables. The display can be tilted for better viewing and it's graced with an Energy Star.
The Acer S230HL Abii is a good choice if you're in the market for a larger, cheap LED display. The extra HDMI input is a nice bonus, although sacrificing the commonly used DVI-D input is a bit puzzling. Some TN-based monitors have a faster response time than the S230HL Abii, but the 5ms performance doesn't seem to hinder this display at all.
