Apple iPod shuffle 2010 2GB Review
Apple’s newest shuffle has cut its total storage space in half and ditched the old headphone control for the traditional buttons directly on the device. As usual, this is the smallest, most compact MP3 player for the money, although users and experts still wish the capacity was a bit larger and the battery had more staying power.
CNET experts welcome the return of the clickable control pad in a fourth-generation iPod shuffle review; the previous model had buttons only on the earbuds, leaving users with third-party headphones unable to control it. Laptopmag.com concurs in an iPod shuffle review but notes that the older model offered twice the storage capacity; this version holds only 2 GB. However, Laptopmag.com admires the design and notes in its iPod shuffle review that the new shuffle is the cheapest iPod ever. The expert reviewer is also satisfied with the shuffle's 15-hour battery life, which is lower than other cheap MP3 players' but outperforms a more expensive iPod.
Unfortunately, this itty-bitty iPod's light weight and low price come at the expense of basic features such as a screen and additional storage capacity, as well as FM radio. What it does have is support for multiple playlists, audiobooks, podcasts, and Genius Mixes. The multilingual VoiceOver feature announces track and playlist information and battery status at the push of a button.
Apple is due to release an update, according to MacRumors, so hold off on the shuffle for now and hope for more features and space in the next generation.
