Digital Camera Deals

If you're in the market for a new digital camera, December to February is the best time to find digital camera deals. Holiday sales in December often include digital camera deals, and many retailers mark down digital camera prices even further after the holidays to clear the shelves for newer models.

New digital cameras first show up in January at the Consumer Electronics Show and reach retail shelves by February, which means digital camera deals on older models will be available through February, with the peak around Presidents Day.

There are lots of sites to check for digital camera deals. The usual suspects, including Walmart, Target, and Best Buy, all offer digital camera deals worth a close look. Currently Walmart features numerous digital camera deals, such as the Nikon Coolpix S3300 with a case and extra 4GB SD card for $99, while Target is promoting several options starting at $79.99. Best Buy maintains a deals section reserved for the top ten digital camera deals of the week; right now the purchase of a point-and-shoot camera nets you a free camera bag and shipping. Amazon also has a large selection of digital point-and-shoots, including our top pick, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-S3, starting at $79.99.

Beyond the usual electronics retailers, it's worth searching for digital camera deals at office supply stores such as Office Max, Staples, and Office Depot. Of the three, Staples has the largest selection of digital camera deals under $100, including several models from Cannon, Panasonic, and Nikon. Staples garners mixed reviews at Viewpoints, however, where some shoppers warn of poor customer service, poor repair policies, and misleading coupons. Still, others laud the reasonable prices, free shipping, fast delivery, and customer care.

Tiger Direct and Newegg, two techie online stores, offer a variety of digital camera deals and attract mostly positive reviews from consumers. Digital camera deals at Tiger Direct start as low as $54.99 and Newegg presented nearly 35 digital camera deals priced under $100 the day we checked. Tiger Direct scores 4.5 stars out of 5 at Bizrate, where consumers report excellent shopping experiences, on-time delivery, quality products, and competitive prices. Newegg likewise receives mostly upbeat reviews from consumers who posted at Site Jabber. In fact, several reviewers call it their favorite site for buying electronics because shipping is prompt, the selection is impressive, prices are unbeatable, and customer service is good.

Coupon and comparison sites can also point you towards digital camera deals. Tech Bargains specifically seeks out bargain deals for electronics. The day we searched for digital camera deals, the site posted more than 200 that you could compare among merchants.

Nikon Coolpix S3300

This model has a few strong points, including excellent color accuracy and effective image stabilization, but the overall performance and picture quality prove disappointing. Reviews point to distortions and a lack of sharpness in photos.
