Semi-automatic espresso makers, like those on our list, can be mastered without too much sweat and tears. These starter models all have fairly large water tanks and you can make multiple shots in one sitting, although you may have to wait a few minutes in between so the machine can reheat; some can brew two shots at a time or give you the option of a tall shot. Using E.S.E. pods or proprietary capsules is easier than using loose grounds, but some consumers insist you wind up with a less intense drink. These machines are compact and sit nicely on a counter or table.
