Trader Giotto's Pizza 4 Formaggi Review
GOOD FROZEN CHEESE PIZZA. A thin, crisp crust and "sharp cheese flavor" distinguished this Trader Joe's-brand pie from other contenders. Panelists agreed that the "flavor was better than the appearance." The pizza's "mild" taste and "savory sauce" put it solidly in second place in the cheese division.
Sold through specialty supermarket Trader Joe's under an Italianized house brand name, this four-cheese pizza sells for a budget-friendly $3.99. It may have one of the lower price tags among our test pizzas, but the pie's small size gives it the highest price per ounce: just under 30 cents. Nonetheless, Trader Giotto's pizza reviews from our panel suggest it's worth the money.
With an average score of 3.1 out of 5 among the panelists, this pizza came in second only to Freschetta 4-Cheese Medley in the cheese category. Although it didn't rank quite as high, it drew more "favorite" votes. It seemed that, while the Freschetta 4-Cheese Medley was lauded for being a "well-balanced" package, the Trader Giotto's pizza was more polarizing: Not everyone liked it, but those who did felt strongly about their preference.
Testers who favored Trader Giotto's were drawn to the abundance of cheese and "mild" taste, as well as the fact that it was "different from the others" they sampled. A few detractors said they wouldn't eat this pizza again -- one went so far as to spit it out -- but most Trader Giotto's pizza reviews from our panel declared the pie "decent" to "good" overall.
Trader Giotto's Pizza 4 Formaggi ($3.99 for 13.4 ounces, or 30 cents an ounce) has also gotten some love online. The blogger behind An Immovable Feast often evaluates Trader Joe's products and included the Pizza 4 Formaggi in a larger roundup. His brief Trader Joe's pizza review expresses surprise that a plain cheese pie could be so flavorful.
