Tires Deals
Obviously, there are circumstances when you have no choice but to buy new tires immediately. If it's not an emergency, though, hold off making a purchase until April or October, the best months to find tire deals.
Frugal consumers should do their research and shop around extensively before purchasing tires. The best places to start looking for tire deals are tire specialty stores and websites. Discount Tire is one site worth checking out. Tire deals are constant here and the day we searched, it was offering a $50 prepaid Visa card with the purchase of Kumho or General tires and an $80 prepaid Visa card with the purchase of Goodyear Dunlop tires. Discount Tire receives mostly positive reviews on ResellerRatings, where consumers say customer service is second to none, and the vendor stands behind the product and makes buying new cheap tires fast and efficient. Pep Boys automotive stores also offer various tire deals, including buy three, get the fourth free. This offer was available for online ordering and in- store pickup. Tire Discounters sells General Altimax RT - our top choice at a starting price of $64 a tire. This is just a quote, though -- you must go to a Tire Discounters outlet to take advantage of this tire deal.
Warehouse stores Costco and Sam's Club also offer tire deals. Costco maintains tire centers and continuously offers tire deals, including the current $70 off a set of four Bridgestone tires and $30 off the installation price. (The tires you choose must be shipped to the Costco store where the installation will be done.) In a review of Costco Tire Center on Bargaineering, the reviewer points out numerous perks attached to Costco's tire deals, such as a lifetime warranty and replacement, and free lifetime rotation and balancing. The review generated more than 50 comments, most of which also report positive experiences with Costco tires; several say Costco is the best place to find tire deals.
Several other sites and vendors are worth investigating. Amazon posts hundreds of tire deals, with the lowest priced tires starting around $66 and most qualifying for free super saver shipping, but you're on your own when it comes to installation. Sears is a good source for tire deals and currently is offering an $80 mail-in rebate on four Goodyear tires, a $50 mail-in rebate on four BF Goodrich tires, and $40 off all online automotive orders totaling at least $400. Walmart posts decent tire deals and is now offering a $50 prepaid Visa card with the purchase of four General tires; all tires qualify for free shipping to the store of your choice.
Remember to check out comparison sites such as Price Grabber, where we saw a tire deal for as low as $62 on the Goodyear brand. Deal sites and coupons sites can also be useful. For example, a search for tire deals on Fat Wallet revealed several discount offerings, including a $60 prepaid Visa card with the purchase of four Faulken tires.
