Wireless Inkjet Printers.
Cheap inkjets typically sit on the desk attached to your computer, so it's no surprise that a USB port is the only connection you'll usually find.Wireless inkjet printers are common among the $85-plus mid-range but are the new big thing in the cheap inkjet printers segment and, according to the inkjet printer reviews we read, wireless inkjet printers appeal to people who use laptops, need more space on their desks, or value the portability. The two all-in-ones on our list, the Canon PIXMA MP495 and HP Deskjet 3050, can be set up as wireless inkjet printers.
Mid-range inkjet printers commonly have PictBridge capability, which lets you print photos straight from your digital camera or smartphone. A few newer cheap inkjets, like the Canon PIXMA iP4820 and PIXMA MP495, let you print straight from your iPhone and Android devices and can also print clips taken with your camera's video setting. You'll find media card readers on many mid-range inkjets and on some cheap inkjets as well, such as the HP Deskjet 3050.
Cheapest Inkjet Cartridges.
The biggest gripe about cheap inkjets is the high cost of ink and the rate at which these devices guzzle the stuff down. Black ink cartridges typically run $20 or more and three-color cartridges generally start around $30, which means cheap inkjets can easily and quickly wind up costing budget-minded users more than their worth. We found user complaints about high ink cost across the board for every cheap inkjet and manufacturer, although HP and Canon fare slightly more favorably among users looking for the cheapest inkjet cartridges than do Lexmark and Epson.Printers are so cheap compared to the cost of ink these days that you may be tempted to chuck the old one and buy something new. One user commenting on Epinions tells of buying a new color printer from Lexmark instead of shelling out $52 for an ink cartridge. Another ink-related grievance concerns the omission of a simple black ink cartridge in the original packing box; the Lexmark Z2300 (starting at $31, Amazon) is one offender. If ink were included at this thrifty price the cost would be on par with the competition, but tacking on the extra $20 you'll have to spend to print your first job takes this cheap printer out of the race for some users. Users posting reviews on Amazon also complain about the small and hard-to-find cartridges for the Lexmark Z2300.
Cheap Inkjets Resolution.
Resolution is a common way people describe print quality. The higher the resolution, the better the printer's output. Remember, though, paper, ink technology, and the number of ink cartridges also contribute to print quality -- and inkjet technology is better than laser technology at printing photos and colorful images. Most cheap inkjet printers, like the Canon PIXMA iP2600 (starting at $57, AmazonCheap Printer Paper.
Most cheap inkjets have paper trays that can hold 30-100 sheets of paper of various sizes and accommodate standard-sized envelopes; the Canon PIXMA iP4820 ups the ante with two trays that can each accommodate 150 sheets. Models that stand out as photo printers, like the PIXMA iP4820 and PIXMA iP2600, along with cheap all-in-one inkjet printers, like the HP Deskjet 3050 and Canon PIXMA MP495, also handle paper sized for photos (e.g., 4x6, 5x7, 8x10) and stock intended for photos, such as matte and varieties of glossy. The PIXMA iP2600 also prints on photo stickers and credit card-size paper and the Epson WorkForce 30 Color Ink Jet (starting at $62, AmazonLow-cost Inkjet Printers Size.
Cheap print-only inkjets boast a relatively small footprint and usually weigh between seven and 12 pounds. Cheap all-in-one inkjet printers that copy, scan, and maybe fax generally have a slightly larger footprint and weigh just over the 12 pound mark.Best Cheap Printers
