HTC Windows Phone 8X Review
HTC Windows Phone 8X 5 Star Rating: Cheapism Best Pick
Summary:

If you're seeking an Android alternative and find this phone for less than $50, jump on it. While the Windows Phone app selection is limited, expert reviewers say the phone itself excels in nearly every way with the exception of its camera, which is still fairly good.

If you're looking for a fast phone with an eye-popping display, this one is hard to beat. HTC Windows Phone 8X reviews from several experts note the power of the 1.5 GHz dual-core processor. A reviewer from Brighthand praises the Windows Phone 8 interface and features -- an improvement over previous-generation Windows 7 phones. He also admires this model's sharp display, saying it produces deep, vibrant colors. The only significant shortcomings are the mediocre camera and the lack of a microSD slot to expand the phone's memory. An HTC 8X review at Digital Trends calls the camera decent but notes that photos have a tendency to look washed out -- and that's not because of the display, which this reviewer agrees is outstanding. An HTC 8X review from CNET points to the speedy processor and reports that the phone downloads data quickly on AT&T's 4G LTE network. Again, there are quibbles with the camera: While some photos look quite good, with excellent color accuracy, others look too soft.

The HTC Windows Phone 8X has a 4.3-inch touchscreen that can display 720p high-definition video. This phone includes 16GB of storage, but, as noted above, there's no microSD card slot to expand the memory. In addition to the 8MP main camera on this model, you'll find a 2.1MP front-facing camera for self-portraits and face-to-face video calling. As for connectivity, the phone supports 4G LTE (where service is available), Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. The HTC Windows Phone 8X is available from T-Mobile and Verizon as well as AT&T.

Smartphones based on the Windows Phone 8 operating system are starting to look very intriguing, and this is perhaps the best Windows 8 phone you'll find for a low price. Even if the camera is a bit of a letdown, the display and speed are undoubtedly impressive.

It's surprising to find a phone this appealing for this price -- a mere penny. The Motorola Droid Razr M from Verizon may not have an HD display, but the screen still looks gorgeous. This is also a very fast phone with the new "Jelly Bean" version of Android.

Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

The Blaze 4G from T-Mobile would be easy to recommend as a top pick but for a few cons. For one, it's loaded with bloatware, or preinstalled apps that users can't easily remove. Still, this is a powerful phone with excellent battery life and call quality.
