Samsung Epic 4G Review
Samsung Epic 4G 5 Star Rating: Cheapism Best Pick
Summary:
The Epic 4G (LetsTalk.com, Sprint) has the best display in the lineup and appealing good looks. Its 4G technology makes it plenty fast and experts say it excels at just about everything it does. For those users who are hesitant about touch-screen keyboards, the Epic 4G sports a nice slide-out version.

The Samsung Epic 4G (starting at $50/Letstalk.com and Sprint) is a Sprint phone that joins that carrier's lineup of 4G-enabled smartphones. Samsung Epic 4G reviews list lots of reasons to like this smartphone, not least of which is the screen. An Epic 4G review on CNET raves about the top-notch display and responsive touchscreen. The graphics performance clearly impresses Android Central, whose Epic 4G review likewise praises the smartphone's speed and overall operation. In the opinion of the experts at Endadget, the Epic 4G is a "killer" smartphone with its slide-out keyboard, color-saturated display, WiMax (warp-speed Wi-Fi) support, and LED flash on the camera. Digital Trends' Epic 4G review is equally effusive, commenting that high-resolution multimedia visuals seem to pop and voice during calls comes in loud and clear.

The Epic 4G earns such praise because Samsung decked it out with lots of appealing features. The 4-inch, 800x480 AMOLED display ensures bright and dazzling visuals, and a physical keyboard is a welcome component for users who don't like to type on a virtual keyboard. The 5mp camera is standard resolution for most budget smartphones, and while a few are now offering up to 8mp, Epic 4G reviews say pictures come out just fine. In addition to its support for WiMax (still a rarity in the budget smartphones category), the Epic 4G also supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 802.11 b/g/g.

If you like slider phones with physical keyboards, the Samsung Epic 4G is the phone for you. It sports just about everything you could want in a smartphone, including a gorgeous display and fast 4G support. The phone's main weakness (if you can call it that) is the 5mp camera, but we're nitpicking here. This smartphone is an excellent buy.

The Droid Incredible 2 (LetsTalk.com, Verizon) is another very good phone from HTC. It performs well all around and call quality is sharp and clear. It also earns praise for its excellent display and battery life is better than good. This is a 3G phone and some reviewers complain it's a little heavy with preloaded apps that users can't remove. BlackBerry Curve 3G

The BlackBerry Curve 3G (multiple carriers) is similar to a lot of previous BlackBerries in that it does what its designed to do extremely well but falls short in its multimedia capabilities. If you want an affordable smartphone with excellent call quality, a physical keyboard, and top-notch messaging/email capabilities, the Curve is for you. You'll lose out though, with the display, web surfing, and other media performance. Read more »
