BlackBerry Curve 3G Review
The BlackBerry Curve 3G (multiple carriers) is similar to a lot of previous BlackBerries in that it does what its designed to do extremely well but falls short in its multimedia capabilities. If you want an affordable smartphone with excellent call quality, a physical keyboard, and top-notch messaging/email capabilities, the Curve is for you. You'll lose out though, with the display, web surfing, and other media performance.
The BlackBerry Curve 3G (starting at $30/AT&T, Amazon) is a classic BlackBerry, a fact that BlackBerry Curve 3G reviews consider both good and bad. Brighthand, for example, says the Curve 3G provides excellent call quality, reliable performance, and an easy-to-use optical trackpad. On the other hand, the BlackBerryCurve 3G review contends that the web browser is nothing to crow about, an assessment echoed by other reviewers. Experts at Laptop like the Curve 3G's comfortable keyboard, precise trackpad, and above-average battery life but gripe about its low-resolution display. The camera on the Curve 3G gets little respect from Trusted Reviews, which notes it sports only 2 mp and lacks both flash and autofocus.
The BlackBerry Curve 3G is offered by several carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint. It has a small 2.46-inch screen with relatively low 320x240 resolution and a camera with a mere 2 mp, less than most budget smartphones. The Curve 3G features a physical keyboard and supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 802.11b/g connections. It's a light 3.7 ounces.
Like many BlackBerry smartphones, the Curve 3G seems to be all business. When it comes to messaging, email management, and business-related applications, the Curve 3G is a worthy player. The keyboard is excellent, as is its slick optical trackpad. The Curve 3G also boasts very good call quality and battery life. However, this smartphone falls flat when it comes to multimedia of any kind. The screen is too small and its resolution too low, and the camera is totally out of range of the best discount smartphones. If what you want is a simple, reliable, no-frills smartphone with excellent messaging abilities, the Curve 3G is calling out to you.
