Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy last month, and since then, there’s been a new list of store closures seemingly every week. This trend is not unique, though, because they’re joining other big pharmacy chains in closing locations, including Walgreens and CVS. Here’s the latest list of closures that Rite Aid just announced.
Why Is Rite Aid Closing Stores?
Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy twice in less than a year, with the most recent filing in May 2025. The chain’s goal was to restructure its business and debts, and it cited financial woes “intensified by the rapidly evolving retail and healthcare landscapes” as the reason for the filing.
Before filing for bankruptcy, the company operated over 1,200 pharmacies across 15 states. It secured $1.9 billion in funding to keep the stores operating during bankruptcy, but it’s been regularly filing lists of locations it’s closing in court.
When Will the Rite Aid Stores Close?
Rite Aid has never released exactly when its stores will close, but many have already closed across the country. It’s definitely best to call your location ahead of time to double check that it’s still open before heading there.
Which Rite Aid Locations Have Already Closed?
Hundreds of Rite Aid closures have already been announced. They’ve come in groups, including one announcement of 361 locations, and another group of hundreds more announced just a couple weeks ago. All told, the total number of Rite Aid closures tops 700, according to The Hill.
