Everyone knows how to tell the difference between food and non-food items. Even though many restaurants serve dishes shaped like rose petals or other elements that might be confusing, you realize you can actually eat them. These Reddit users shared images similar to those of weird food that doesn’t look real but actually is, causing confusion and amusement!
Angel Hair Chocolate

An image that doesn’t look like food at all is the one shared by Reddit user Lifetimemovieclips. It’s a chocolate angel hair dessert that looks like there are hairs growing out of it, making this weird food not very appetizing to look at. He also added: “It tasted great and did make my mouth itch a little bit.”
Puppy Cake

Reddit user Green-Cockroach-8448 shared the puppy cake she made for her daughter. This weird food required a lot of sculpting, which the cake’s creator said she had never done before. She added, “There are certain areas where it looks a little ‘off’ to me, like I should have built up the snout more, and maybe the nose is too big.”
Turtle Shaped Crackers

These crackers from the supermarket are shaped like little turtles, and when you take them out of the package, they could fool a lot of people. If you placed this weird food on the beach or in a natural setting, they could be mistaken for real turtles. Reddit user summerchild_ expressed: “They actually tasted really good, you can’t go wrong with a pretzel-flavored snack.”
Tie-Dye Pizza

Reddit user Terry_Eats_A_Banana shared the meal he received after ordering a cheese pizza with colorful edible glitter. This pizza is called “Tie-Dye” and cost $12. This weird food is a thin-crust pizza featuring a swirling pattern of tomato sauce, creamy vodka sauce, and vibrant green basil pesto that was popularized in New York City.
Is It a Cake or an Ornament?

Reddit user Cawlaw92 did a great job making this tropical pineapple-style cake, which, if you look at it from a distance, could be mistaken for a home decoration. Although the user mentioned that the green leaves should be taller because it is supposed to resemble a pineapple, a reply from user fnargelsnoo commented: “You can say it’s one of the Azorean pineapples, that have small crowns. This looks great!”

Banana Ice Cream

Just the idea of banana-shaped ice cream is strange enough, but the fact that the banana is bent as if it were tied in a knot makes it even stranger. That’s what this company is selling with this weird food, as revealed by Reddit user unbreaklion. She added: “It tasted just like banana milk as advertised and it only cost $0.99 at Ranch Market.”
Monstrosity Food

Reddit user greens_beans_queen revealed that this dish is supposed to be a breakfast her husband made. The man of the house cooked quinoa with boiled rhubarb and milk poured over it, all in the microwave. This weird food prompted a reply from TheMrsH1124: “I chopped up 40 pounds of raw chicken today and this is exactly what I thought this was.”
Custard Steam Buns

Custard is made from milk or cream, egg yolks, sugar, and vanilla, and it usually comes in the form of a sauce, not as steamed buns as shown in this image shared by Reddit user dumplingslover23. He added: “The top layer seems too shallow to have filling, and it raised while being cooked to look like this. They were tasty though.” This weird food certainly doesn’t resemble traditional custard.

At Least, It Looks Like Food

Although this image shared by the user appears to be food, it’s not that easy to tell whether it’s a savory or sweet dish. Reddit user sausage22 commented that she had the goal of making some lofty bread but the combination of inadequate kitchen skills and being tired resulted in “this monstrosity”, as she described. This weird food was inedible, and she added: “I couldn’t even eat it because it came out basically raw and tossed it after all the effort.”
Tulip Cookie

Neither the advertised version of the tulip cookie, priced at $3.39, nor what you ultimately receive at home looks like a meal. This weird food might look more like a rose-shaped bar of soap, and what you get at home is like a play dough-like that your child has made for school. The shop advertised the cookie as: “A delicious crafted tulip-shaped shortbread cookie with decorative icing.”
Baby Shower Cake

Reddit user yolk3d shared a photo of the baby shower cake that was bought for a friend of hers. To be honest, it looks really well done. This weird food features a curvy bow and fondant designed to resemble fabric, which could have gotten ruined. She added: “The fondant is edible and I immediately said that I wanted to give it a crack as I never did a cake decorating process.”
Cookie Cake for Dog Party

Cakes seem to be the best way to disguise weird food as something that’s not edible at all. Reddit user mattteg99 shared the “cookie cake for a dog party” that he had ordered. It could pass for a drawing or a painting, but let’s just hope the dogs at the party that day enjoyed this treat.
That’s a Hot Dog?

Reddit user sushee98 shared a photo of an online order he placed for a “Milenio Hot Dog”, and what ultimately arrived at his home: A bun smothered in a greenish, brown, and yellow sauce that had absolutely no chance of whetting any customer’s appetite. This weird food was supposed to contain two sausages, Cuban beans, pork beans, plain beans, chorizo, shredded beef with onions, and yellow cheese.
Doesn’t Look Good But…

Reddit user BrewBroz commented that the dish doesn’t look good, but it tasted like heaven. He also revealed that it was a Mexican dish called “Adobo Verde” which is pork in spicy green sauce. A reply from user crayoningtilliclay expressed: “Looks like you’ve broken into a hospital’s pathology department and stolen some samples.”
Macaroni and Cheese Without Noodles

Upon opening this package of supermarket Mac and cheese, Reddit user Skate_QG was surprised to find that the package contained only the white cheddar and bacon sauce, with no noodles. The only explanation for this is a malfunction in the machine that adds the noodles, as well as a failure on the part of the person responsible for quality control.
Greek Yogurt with Peanut Butter

This dish combines Greek yogurt, peanut butter, sliced bananas, and some cinnamon. Reddit user [borrado] who posted it mentioned that it tasted very good, but it doesn’t look at all like something you’d actually eat. It could be a snack prepared by a worker who’s about to plaster a wall. He added: “It’s all fiber and sweetness from the banana, healthy fats from the peanut butter, and protein from the Greek yogurt.”
Conclusion

You have to look at many of these foods twice, or very closely, to really be sure they’re actually edible. From chocolates that seem to have hairs inside them to dishes that look like paste, and which, in some cases, ended up in the trash, not many people would dare to eat these foods as they’re presented.
