Unlike most retailers, Aldi has had a booming year. It’s opening over 200 new stores in 2025, and there’s a flurry of openings this month to get them to that goal. People just can’t get enough of its affordable and delicious products — not to mention its famous Aldi Finds aisle.

Here’s where Aldi is opening new stores this month, just in time for Christmas dinner groceries.

Why Is Aldi Opening More Stores?

Aldi is one of the few retailers expanding right now, probably because its entire business model is based on inexpensive groceries, housewares, and seasonal decor. People are feeling the pinch at the grocery store, and Aldi keeps its prices low by selling almost all private label items (that means Aldi-branded, similar to how Trader Joe’s works). The chain also keeps labor costs low by having customer bag their own groceries and return their carts to get their quarters back.

In February, Aldi announced that it was planning to open 225 new locations in the U.S. in 2025. That’s part of a bigger goal to open 800 new locations by the end of 2028, something most retailers right now couldn’t even dream of in this economy.

Many of the new Aldi locations will be converted Winn-Dixie and Harveys stores. Earlier this year, Aldi purchased Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys. It plans to convert 220 of those stores into Aldi locations by 2027.
