Art Deco
Miami Beach, Florida | $2.4 million It probably comes as no surprise that the Art Deco style is well represented in Florida. Realtor Magazine notes that, by 1940, this style morphed into the Art Moderne style, characterized by “curved corners, rectangular glass-block windows, and a boat-like appearance” — in other words, what you see in this property.

Bungalow
St. Petersburg, Florida | $650,000This 1925 home has been extensively updated while still retaining its classic bungalow charm. Realtor Magazine notes that this style, which originated in California during the 1880s, “became so popular that you could order a bungalow kit from Sears and Roebuck catalog.” It is characterized in part by small covered front porches and low-pitched hipped or gabled roofs.

Cape Cod

It’s characterized by the Cape style’s uncomplicated design, which includes a steeply pitched roof, dormer windows, and a clapboard exterior.

New Orleans | $2.2 millionBuilt in the 1820s and updated in 2013, this stunning example of Creole architecture — in N’awlins, of course — has three stories, five bedrooms, more than four baths, and nearly 5,000 square feet of space.

Alexandria, Virginia | $60 millionWhoa on that price tag, right? It features the arched Palladian windows and other grand features that are characteristic of this architectural style.

Quincy, Illinois | $298,500Realtor Magazine notes that this “style was molded from modern materials — concrete, glass, and steel —and is characterized by an absence of decoration.” It also says it’s found mostly in California and the East Coast, but we found this lovely four-bedroom example in America’s heartland.

While this style is often thought of as cold, the interior of this house is anything but — it features lots of warm wood, including in multiple built-ins. It also has elements of art deco design mixed in, and a two-story great room gets flooded with southern light.
Italianate
Racine, Wisconsin | $575,000The Italianate architectural style is full of ornate decoration, especially around windows, and this Badger State home is a gorgeous example. Located in Racine’s historic district, this 1874 home is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Pueblo
Santa Fe, New Mexico | $1.15 millionSurrounded by mountain views, this Pueblo-style home on 11 acres has a guest house, a small barn, and a claim to fame: John Wayne filmed a movie on this property’s location in the early 1970s, and the sellers say some of the set remnants remain.
