Conagra

Conagra Brands is recalling nearly 3 million pounds of canned meat and poultry products because a packaging defect may cause some of the food to become contaminated without necessarily showing obvious signs of contamination.

Iowa-based Conagra Brands shipped some 2.6 million pounds of canned meat and poultry products to retailers nationwide. The company discovered the packaging defect in its warehouse after discovering a number of spoiled and leaking cans. The Food Safety and Inspection Service is concerned that some consumers may have contaminated products in their pantries, though no reports of adverse reactions from the consumption of any of the recalled products have been reported.

Recalled products include a variety of Armour-brand Vienna sausages, along with several other brands of canned meat products. The potentially contaminated varieties have “P4247″ printed on the can. A complete list of affected products can be found on the FSIS website.

If you have any of the recalled products, the FSIS advises that the products should be thrown away or returned to where they were purchased. Consumers with questions about the recall or affected products can send an email or call 800-289-6014, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time.

As a mom of multiple young children, she tries to maintain a sustainable lifestyle for her family. She grows vegetables in her garden, gets her meat in bulk from local farmers, and cans fruits and vegetables with friends. Her kids have plenty of hand-me-downs in their closets, but her husband jokes that before long, they might need to invest in a new driveway thanks to the frequent visits from delivery trucks dropping off online purchases (she can’t pass up a good deal, after all).
