The chokehold that the smells coming out of the Costco bakery have over us is remarkable, and we’re not alone. Shoppers at the wholesale club flock to the bakery in troves, whether to grab a pumpkin pie the size of Andre the Giant’s head or to bonus up on bagels. But any time there’s a new item, that’s usually when frenzies start happening.

Enter: the Chocolate Chip Cookie Bar Cake. The Cookie Monster isn’t the only one blushing over this bad boy, according to a Reddit thread revealing the new bakery find.

What’s in the Chocolate Chip Cookie Bar Cake?

Costco’s newest bar cake includes a layer of chocolate chip vanilla sponge cake, a layer of chocolate sponge cake, a layer of cookie whipped cream, chocolate chip blondie bits, chocolate icing, and two delicate chocolate chip cookies on top. Oof. Apparently, its composition is so smooth and delicate that it gives off ice cream cake vibes.

One Redditor who got to sample the cake commented, “It was fantastic. Absolutely worth a purchase. I couldn’t tell if it was ice cream cake because of how cold it was, but it was the only sample I’ve ever wanted to go back for seconds of.”

From what we know of Costco, this wouldn’t be an ice cream cake unless it was in the freezer, but the thought of popping this cake in the freezer for a bit so the layer of cookie whipped cream turns into a chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream vibe makes us shiver. In the best way.

How Much Does the Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake Cost?

The 2.5-lb Chocolate Chip Cookie Bar Cake at Costco costs $18.99, or 50 cents an ounce. It’s a lot of cake for the price, leaving some Redditors to lament about its size, commenting, “This is definitely a case of wishing Costco had an option to buy those desserts in smaller quantities. Like I’d love to buy 1/4th of that cake just to try it, but buying that whole thing and having it in the house is just self-destructive tendencies.” Valid.

Is the Cake Any Good?

To the Redditor who commented, “I fear what unearthly things I’d do to that cake if it ever crossed my path,” we see you, and we concur. The consensus of folks who are still in the ogling phase is that this cake would test them in ways they’re not sure they’re prepared to be tested, and the folks who have tried the cake confirm that it is, in fact, delicious.

“It’s great! Probably an 8/10,” one Redditor wrote. “The middle tastes like cookie dough ice cream, but it’s surprisingly not too sweet!”

Our civic duty is to try it ourselves, obviously, so we know what’s making its way to the top of our errand list.
