Dairy Queen turns 85 this year, and for the second time this year, instead of cutting a cake, the chain is offering a sweet deal on its most beloved frozen treat with 85-cent Blizzards — but only for a limited time.

Here is the scoop.

What Is the Dairy Queen Deal?

To celebrate its milestone birthday, Dairy Queen is offering a small Blizzard Treat for $0.85 from Sept. 8 through Sept. 21, 2025. This is the second time this year the chain has offered the discount, after running the same promotion in the spring. The discounted price is inspired by two significant dates: Dairy Queen’s founding in 1940 in Joliet, Illinois, and the launch of the Blizzard in 1985.

What Are the Options?

This is an excellent time for this offer as it lines up with the launch of the chain’s Fall Treat Collection, which features the Pumpkin Pie Blizzard alongside new flavors like the Caramel Toffee Cookie Blizzard and Maple Cookie Shake.  According to DQ’s press release, the offer is “the perfect opportunity to try a new flavor or revisit an old favorite at an unbeatable value while celebrating 85 years of DQ.”

You can also take advantage of the deal with any flavor of Dairy Queen’s Blizzard Treats.

How Can You Redeem It?

The promotion requires a minimum $1 purchase and is limited to DQ Rewards members using the mobile app. Each member can redeem the deal once during the two-week period. You must have a favorite store selected in the app, and redemption can happen either through mobile order or by scanning a code in-store or at the drive-thru.

How Did the Blizzard Become a Classic?

The Blizzard debuted on Dairy Queen’s menu in 1985 and quickly gained popularity. Back then, you could get one for about a buck, and fans ordered more than 175 million in the first year. These days, a small Blizzard usually costs from $3 upwards, so the 85-cent deal really does feel like stepping back in time.
