In many countries, especially in Europe, alcohol is served almost everywhere. In Portugal, for example, you can order a draft beer in a bakery. But in the U.S., strict liquor laws and pricey licenses keep fast-food spots mostly dry. But some chains found a way around the red tape.
Here’s where you can actually sip a drink with your burger, pizza, or burrito.

1. Chipotle
Chipotle has offered more than just aguas frescas to pair with your burrito since opening in 1993. The Denver-based chain serves margaritas and a selection of domestic and imported bottled beers in select locations. In 2013, the margarita recipe was upgraded to include premium tequila, and it’s been a favorite ever since. While the chain has experimented with other cocktails, margaritas remain a staple at many locations.
2. Sbarro
Sbarro’s been fighting to stay relevant for years, and adding beer and wine to the menu at select locations seems like their latest play to draw a crowd. Let’s be honest — when your pizza’s mall-grade, a cold beer might just help it go down easier.
3. Shake Shack
Shake Shack has always aimed higher than your usual fast food spot, so adding craft beers and wine to the menu feels like a natural move. Partnering with Brooklyn Brewery, Shake Shack offers exclusive brews like the Shackmeister Ale, which is made exclusively for them.
4. Pizza Hut
Some Pizza Hut locations serve alcohol— over 550 across the U.S., to be exact. Whether it’s dine-in, counter-service, or even to-go, the booze options depend on the franchise and local laws. So, if you’re craving a Meat Lover’s and a cold beer, it’s worth checking if your local spot has both on the menu.
5. Smashburger
In March 2022, Smashburger opened its first corporate-owned spot with a full bar in Denver, offering draft beers, canned brews, and cocktails like the “Blackberry Smash” and “Coconut Mule.” Some franchise locations already sell alcohol, particularly in airports, but the Denver location is its first with a full-service bar.

6. Taco Bell Cantina
Tacos and tequila might not fly at your typical Taco Bell, but your alcoholic cravings are more than welcome at Taco Bell Cantina — a sit-down version of the chain with alcohol on the menu. The Cantina serves spiked Baja Blasts, beer, sangria, and twisted Freezes, along with the usual tacos and burritos. Instead of a drive-thru, you’ll find a casual, trendy vibe with open kitchens and spots to hang out. It’s still Taco Bell, with booze and a slightly more grown-up feel.
