After sitting in the garage of a millionaire’s island residence for a quarter of a century, a rare 1975 Lamborghini Countach LP400 sold at auction for €953,600 ($1.05 million), including fees, at a recent Artcurial auction in Paris. The car was one of the first LP400s built for the 1975 model year — production No. 9 — and one of only 150 units made.
The rare Countach was purchased by the reclusive millionaire in 1983, who was only its fourth owner, according to the Paris auction house’s vehicle listing. The most recent owner drove the Lamborghini to and from his office but, “for the sake of discretion,” chose to stow the elite supercar in his garage. There it remained unseen for nearly three decades and preserved in mint condition. The model had 87,558 kilometers (54,300 miles) on the odometer and its original motor when sold at the Feb. 3 auction.

Though a million-dollar price tag is no slouch in the auto auction world, Lamborghinis are known for fetching millions — the most expensive Lambo ever sold at auction was a 2014 Veneno Roadster that went for $8.3 million in 2019.
