Ah, this Christmas will be just like the ones of yore … well, kind of. While toys and trees may be in short supply thanks to supply-chain snags, there are glimmers of hope: Macy’s is bringing back some holiday traditions after largely calling them off last year.

People will be able to attend the long-running Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in person, after the New York City spectacle was held spectator-free last year. And parents will be heartened to hear that kids will once again be able to visit Santa in Chicago, New York, and San Francisco.
Alas, sitting in the big guy’s lap? That’s still off the table.
“Safeguarding the health of guests, Santa, and his elves is Macy’s top priority, and as such visits will be contactless and be conducted from a socially distanced experience as kids share their Christmas wish lists with the jolly man in red,” Macy’s says. So, instead of whispering what they want in Santa’s ear, little ones will either need to shout, or write it down.

Another option: They can log on for “Santaland at Home.” Kids who access the Macy’s Santaland website can play online games and meet Santa through an interactive video that allows them to give Santa their wish list and create a Santa selfie, which be available to download.
