Nearly every fast-food joint has put a snack wrap — that beloved combination of chicken tenders, lettuce, and cheese rolled up in a flour tortilla — on their menu at one point or another. Sonic’s done it. KFC’s done it. Burger King’s done it.

But snack wraps may be the most popular of all at McDonald’s. At least, they used to be. Fans don’t seem too happy with the newest iteration, which launched this summer. Here’s what customers are saying.

What’s Different About the New McDonald’s Snack Wrap?

Generally, when McDonald’s puts Snack Wraps on the menu, it’s because they’re selling chicken tenders in some way or another. In 2002, the wraps were called Chicken Selects. In 2017, they were called Buttermilk Chicken Tenders.

Now, we’ve got McCrispy Strips — which, according to fans and customers, are extremely different. Chicken Selects, which took 11 minutes to cook as opposed to the 7 minutes that the other chicken took, were crunchier and featured a less pepper-heavy seasoning.

  • Spicy Snack Wrap, with shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, and Spicy Pepper sauce

The reviews are in, and the proverbial Rotten Tomatoes are not very high on this one. All over social media, you’ll read the same thing: People are not happy with the new Snack Wrap, calling them a “disaster,” “way skinnier” than before, and more.

Most agree that the chicken in the snack wrap isn’t nearly as crunchy as it used to be. Some say “the chicken wasn’t crispy at all,” others call it “rubbery.” Some don’t like the new peppery seasoning. “The breading tastes horrible,” writes one McDonald’s fan.

A few lucky customers have also received some that are completely raw. What a thrill! Dinner and a show!

Are People Still Ordering the Snack Wrap?

Unfortunately, McDonald’s is going to take all of these complaints and file them right in the We Don’t Care department, because the things are selling like gangbusters.

Foot traffic was up 15% on the day of the release, and a whopping 20% of customers bought one during the first month they were on sale. If you’re like me, you probably had to order one a second time, just to make sure it actually tasted as bad as I remembered.

It did.
