The fast-food giant is going for the biggest expansion in its modern history. With more than 38,000 locations in over 100 countries already, McDonald’s plans to hit 50,000 global restaurants by 2027.

In the U.S. alone, 900 new stores are expected to open over the next few years.

The focus is on fast-growing states like Texas, California, Florida, and Arizona, where the population is booming and people are apparently always hungry. McDonald’s may be expanding, but it’s not exactly riding a hot streak. In Q1 2025, the company reported a 3.6% drop in U.S. same-store sales — its worst domestic result since the early pandemic days. Global revenue also slipped by 3%, and net income fell by 3% compared to last year.
