Mediterranean food is a pretty broad category. Depending on where you eat, it can mean everything from Greek souvlaki and Turkish flatbreads to Lebanese shawarma, Persian-inspired stews, seafood, mezze, and more. That makes narrowing down the country’s best Mediterranean restaurants considerably more interesting than simply figuring out who serves the best hummus.

For this list, we’re looking at restaurants that earned especially strong customer feedback, with Yelp’s 2026 national Mediterranean ranking serving as a starting point. The ranking analyzed reviews from Yelp Elite members and included restaurants that were open and had passing health scores as of June 23, 2026.

From an upscale coastal Mediterranean restaurant in Arizona to casual shawarma and falafel joints with thousands of glowing reviews, these are 15 of the best-rated Mediterranean restaurants in the U.S. right now.

Pinyon — Scottsdale, Arizona

A modern restaurant named PINYON with large windows, outdoor seating, and lush landscaping. Steps with lights lead to the entrance, surrounded by green plants and flowers. Best-rated Mediterranean restaurants.
Liz B./Google

Yelp named Pinyon the No. 1 Mediterranean restaurant in the country for 2026, and this Old Town Scottsdale spot is considerably more ambitious than your neighborhood gyro joint. Pinyon focuses on coastal Mediterranean cooking, with house-made breads, seasonal vegetables, dips, raw-bar selections, and seafood cooked over an open flame. Reviewers also rave about the attentive service and special-occasion atmosphere. If you’re going, consider the yellowtail crudo or chicken skewers, both of which earned a mention in Yelp’s ranking.

Kassi — Venice, California

A table set with Mediterranean dishes, including grilled skewers, potatoes with dip, Greek salad, flatbread, drinks, and menus on a wooden surface in warm lighting.
Kassi/Google

Great food with an ocean view can sometimes mean you’re paying mostly for the view, but diners say Kassi delivers on both. Located on the rooftop of Hotel Erwin in Venice Beach, the Greek-inspired restaurant landed at No. 2 on Yelp’s 2026 list. The setting is undeniably photogenic, but reviewers also have plenty to say about the food. Two of the more interesting options highlighted in Yelp’s ranking are the whipped avocado and spanakopita quesadilla — proof that Kassi isn’t afraid to play around with familiar Mediterranean flavors.

Ethos Greek Bistro — Fort Lauderdale, Florida

A white plate filled with assorted grilled meats, garnished with lemon wedges and green onions, sits on a wooden table next to drinks and utensils.
Joe C./Google

Ethos Greek Bistro brings a heavy dose of Cretan influence to South Florida, with a menu centered around seafood, vegetables, mezze, and Greek family recipes. It ranked No. 3 nationally on Yelp’s list, while diners regularly praise the combination of polished service and approachable food. Rather than sticking with just one entrée, consider ordering a few things for the table. Greek salad, kefte, lamb chops, and a selection of meze are all solid places to start.

Pidde G — Walnut Creek, California

A plate with grilled meat skewers, white rice, salad, and a scoop of hummus. In the background, grape leaves stuffed with rice on another plate, pita bread on a side plate, and a glass of water.

If your idea of Mediterranean food begins and ends with gyros, Pidde G might expand your horizons. The Turkish-leaning restaurant ranked No. 4 nationally and specializes in flame-grilled kebabs, Turkish flatbreads, sujuk sausage, falafel, and fresh mezze. The namesake pidde — a boat-shaped Turkish flatbread loaded with various toppings — is the obvious move for a first visit. Lahmacun is another good option if you’d rather try something beyond the Mediterranean dishes most Americans already know.

Zait & Zaatar — Aliso Viejo, California

A large plate with grilled chicken, rice topped with spices, sliced tomatoes, green pickles, a green salad, hummus, a yellow pepper, a small cup of sauce, and dollops of yogurt, served on a wooden table.
Zait & Zaatar/Google

Coming in at No. 5 on Yelp’s national ranking, Zait & Zaatar leans heavily into Lebanese cooking, with a menu full of kabobs, kafta, shawarma, fattoush, and traditional sauces. Customer reviews frequently point to freshness as one of the restaurant’s biggest strengths, particularly when it comes to its grilled meats. Kafta or a kabob plate will give you a good introduction, while the fattoush and tamarind sauce are worth adding if you’re ordering enough food to share.

Greens and Grill — Las Vegas, Nevada

A foil-wrapped chicken wrap with lettuce, served with seasoned fries on red-checkered paper and a cup of ranch dipping sauce.
Greens and Grill/Google

Not every highly rated restaurant requires reservations, dressier clothes, or a special-occasion budget. Greens and Grill is a casual Las Vegas spot built around grilled meats, bowls, gyros, and combination plates, and it still managed to reach No. 6 on Yelp’s nationwide list. Reviewers repeatedly praise its consistency, including customers ordering takeout. Try the spicy chicken kabob or gyro plate, or opt for a combination plate if you’re indecisive and want to sample a little more of the menu.

Zoya — San Diego, California

A wooden board with assorted dips, pita bread slices, falafel, carrot sticks, a spoon, and a cup of coffee on a rustic table. Sunglasses rest nearby.
Ankita Aparajita/Google

Zoya takes familiar Mediterranean staples and gives them a more contemporary spin, earning the San Diego restaurant the No. 7 spot in Yelp’s 2026 ranking. Customers frequently describe the food as fresh and packed with flavor, with particularly strong praise going to its mezze and shawarma. Muhammara — a roasted red pepper and walnut dip — is a good choice if you’re tired of automatically ordering hummus everywhere you go, while a chicken shawarma bowl offers something a little more familiar.

Purslane — Milwaukee, Wisconsin

A bowl of fresh salad with greens, radishes, roasted potatoes, and crispy fried cubes, served with a fork on a wooden table next to a colorful mosaic lamp.
Carolina/Google

Milwaukee might not be the first place that comes to mind when you’re planning a Mediterranean dinner, but Purslane makes a strong argument for changing that. Ranked No. 8 nationally, the relatively new restaurant specializes in contemporary Turkish and Eastern Mediterranean cooking and has quickly picked up local praise. The atmosphere makes it particularly well suited to a date night or special dinner. Start with the meze trio, then consider the Ali Nazik beef kebab if you want to try one of the more distinctive dishes on the menu.

Mama Mezze — New York City

A table set with colorful Mediterranean dishes, including salad, bread, couscous, grilled skewers, vegetables, and garnish, all arranged in decorative bowls and plates.
Mama Mezze/Google

The name offers a pretty good clue about how you should approach a meal at Mama Mezze: Bring someone willing to share. The New York City restaurant ranked No. 9 on Yelp’s national list and builds much of its menu around mezze, the assortment of smaller dishes traditionally served for sharing. Diners regularly mention the fresh ingredients, attractive presentation, and warm service. Whipped feta, mushroom hummus, fattoush, and shish taouk are among the dishes worth piling onto the table rather than committing to a single entrée.

Stephano’s Greek & Mediterranean Grill — Las Vegas, Nevada

A Mediterranean restaurant exterior at dusk, with large windows showing warmly lit diners inside and some people seated on the outdoor patio. The sign reads “Greek & Mediterranean Grill.”
Stephano’s Greek & Mediterranean Grill/Google

Las Vegas lands a second restaurant on the list with Stephano’s Greek & Mediterranean Grill, which took the No. 10 spot. This casual restaurant draws from Greek, Lebanese, Armenian, and other Mediterranean culinary traditions without the upscale prices or atmosphere of some other highly rated spots. Customers praise its generous portions, grilled meats, bowls, and friendly service. A chicken kebab plate, chicken souvlaki wrap, or salmon bowl makes this an especially approachable choice when you want a filling meal rather than a fancy night out.

Shawarma Stop — Morrisville, North Carolina

A black takeout container with grilled chicken skewers, pita bread, fries, grilled vegetables, salad, and a cup of white dipping sauce.
Shawarma Stop/Google

Sometimes the most impressive restaurant isn’t the fanciest one. Shawarma Stop ranked No. 11 nationally and has accumulated more than 1,500 reviews while maintaining exceptionally strong customer ratings. Diners consistently mention flavorful chicken, fresh ingredients, quick service, and portions that don’t leave them hungry. The chicken shawarma wrap is the obvious classic, but adventurous diners should consider the spicy muhammara chicken wrap for something with a little more kick.

Olive Kabab & Gyro — Fort Worth, Texas

A foil container with grilled chicken over rice, salad, and olives, served with a side of creamy white sauce and hummus, on a wooden table.
Olive Kabab & Gyro/Google

Olive Kabab & Gyro is another reminder that some of America’s best-rated Mediterranean food comes without white tablecloths or special-occasion prices. Ranked No. 12 nationally, this Fort Worth restaurant focuses on shawarma, kebabs, gyros, and generously portioned plates. Customers frequently praise the tenderness and seasoning of the meat as well as the portion sizes. Try a beef shawarma plate, gyro sandwich, or kafta kebab plate if you want a filling meal that doesn’t require a fine-dining budget.

Paolina — Brooklyn, New York

A hand holds a pita stuffed with falafel, yellow pickles, red cabbage, herbs, and creamy sauce. Outdoor seating with yellow chairs and tables is visible in the blurred background.
Paolina/Google

A really good falafel should be crisp on the outside without turning dry and crumbly in the middle, and reviewers say Paolina gets that balance right. The Brooklyn restaurant ranked No. 13 on Yelp’s national list, with its falafel earning particularly enthusiastic customer feedback. Served with fresh vegetables, hummus, and pita, it’s proof that a restaurant doesn’t need an elaborate grilled-meat program to stand out in this category. Keep things simple with a falafel pita and fries.

Barbouzard — Washington, D.C.

A modern bar with high-backed chairs, glass shelves displaying bottles, and globe chandeliers. Bartenders work behind the counter, and diners sit at tables in the background. The floor features a black-and-white tile pattern.
Vy H./Google

On the more polished end of the spectrum is Barbouzard, a Washington, D.C., restaurant that landed at No. 14 in Yelp’s 2026 Mediterranean ranking. This is more of a sit-down dinner destination than a grab-and-go shawarma shop, with reviewers praising the attentive hospitality, rich flavors, and thoughtful presentation. The hanger steak and grilled octopus are two dishes to keep an eye out for, particularly if you’re looking for Mediterranean food for a nicer evening out.

Middle East Cafe — Berkeley, California

A plate with two grilled kebabs, saffron rice, a roasted tomato, a grilled pepper, and a small side of chopped onions with herbs on a dark wooden table.
Middle East Cafe/Google

Rounding out Yelp’s national top 15 is Berkeley’s Middle East Cafe, where the menu stretches across Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cooking with falafel, lamb, wraps, and Persian-style stews. Customers praise the generous portions and falafel, while the neighboring market adds another reason to stop by. For something beyond the usual gyro, try the lamb shank or gheymeh, a Persian stew typically made with meat, split peas, and dried lime. Or go for the oversized falafel wrap that caught the attention of Yelp reviewers.

Mediterranean Food Goes Far Beyond Hummus and Gyros

One of the biggest takeaways from this list is just how difficult it is to define “Mediterranean food” as a single cuisine. These restaurants draw from Greek, Turkish, Lebanese, Levantine, Eastern Mediterranean, Persian-influenced, and coastal Mediterranean traditions, and the country’s highly rated spots aren’t limited to the usual major food cities.

They’re scattered from Arizona and Nevada to Wisconsin, North Carolina, Texas, Florida, New York, and California. And while some are worthy of a special-occasion dinner, others prove that excellent customer ratings don’t necessarily come with fine-dining prices.

Wherever you go, consider skipping the automatic gyro-and-hummus order. Share a few mezze, add a grilled meat or seafood dish, and try at least one regional specialty you’ve never had before.
