The store famous for being “where a kid can be a kid” is making a big comeback. Toys ‘R’ Us, the nostalgic toy superstore that shaped so many childhoods for decades, has announced that it’s opening new stores, and fast — you’ll be able to shop for holiday gifts in-store once again. Here are all the details, including where the new Toys ‘R’ Us locations will be popping up.

What Happened to Toys ‘R’ Us?

Though many of us have fond memories of Toys ‘R’ Us, whether as a child or as a parent, the brand has died out in recent years. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2017, almost 70 years after it was founded. Soon after, it held liquidation sales and closed all stores in the U.S. while restructuring.

Since then, the brand has been on a roller coaster, but it never completely died, despite public perception. Now, it’s mostly afloat thanks to small Toys ‘R’ Us outlets in Macy’s department stores (but we all know how terribly department stores are doing), outlet malls, and a flagship store in the Mall of America that opened two years ago.

How Many New Stores Will Open?

Toys ‘R’ Us and Go! Retail Group have partnered and announced a push to open new stores. According to a press release, there will be 10 new “flagship” stores and 20 new seasonal holiday shops. Though we don’t have all the details on the new locations yet, it’s safe to say the flagship stores will be standalone Toys ‘R’ Us locations, while the seasonal holiday shops will be part of another store or close after the holiday season.

When Will the New Stores Open?

We don’t have specific opening dates for all the new Toys ‘R’ Us locations yet, but we do know that they will all be open by the end of the year. Since this is part of the company’s holiday push, it’s likely that they’ll all be open by December.
