Aldi is going full throttle in 2025, with plans to open over 225 new stores across the U.S., marking its most aggressive expansion yet.

This includes both brand-new builds and conversions of former Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets, especially in the Southeast.

Here is everything you need to know.

What Is Aldi Planing To Do?

In February, the budget-friendly grocer announced plans to open more than 225 stores in 2025 — its biggest expansion year ever in the U.S.  This is a part of Aldi’s full five-year plan to open 800 new locations by the end of 2028 and grow its reach to more neighborhoods across the country.

Many of these stores are brand-new, but a big chunk will come from converting former Winn-Dixie and Harveys locations in the Southeast into the Aldi format.

Aldi says its entire model is built around helping people stretch their grocery budgets — and right now, that mission is hitting home. “As shoppers continue to feel sticker shock at the checkout, the value Aldi delivers can’t be beat,” said Aldi CEO Jason Hart

The company claims its customers can save up to 36% compared to national brands, without trading down in quality. That strategy is proving effective. “With 25% of U.S. households and counting trusting our products and low prices, we’re growing rapidly from coast to coast,” Hart said.

Aldi’s rollout started early in 2025 and hasn’t slowed down. The company confirmed it has already opened more than 40 stores this year, with many more expected before summer.

By the end of 2025, around 100 stores — most of them converted from Southeastern Grocers locations — will reopen under the Aldi name. New builds are also in the mix, including several in the Western U.S.

The third Las Vegas store is set to open May 15, with a fourth location expected later this year.
