Picture this: You grab the container of baby powder and unknowingly cover your infant in asbestos. Unfortunately, that’s the image the latest product recall conjures up. The U.S. Food & Drug Administration just announced that a baby powder recall due to asbestos has been expanded to include more cases of the product that were shipped to 35 states. Here’s how to tell if your baby powder is part of the recall.

What’s Wrong With the Baby Powder?

Some baby powder made by Dynarex Corp. is being recalled because it may be contaminated with asbestos. It’s a naturally occurring mineral and known carcinogen often found near talc, one of the ingredients in baby powder, but it is usually removed from the product. During routine sampling and testing by the FDA, the finished product was found to contain asbestos. Thankfully, no illnesses or adverse affects have been reported.
